“The 18th of November 2017. The day that changed my life.
“I was diagnosed with an incurable condition, with no idea of what to do or where to go to get help.
“At that moment, I had all these overwhelming thoughts:
- How do I tell my husband and children?
- Do I need to sort my funeral out?
- What about work, can I go back to work?
- And if I can’t work, what about money?
- I’m not old enough to die. I’ve got too much to do
“And then I found Katharine House Hospice. I was the lucky one.
“They answered all my questions and helped with all my worries.
“At this point I felt so relieved – someone was listening to me and I had the support!
“They have counseling, not just for me, but for my family too.
“They have home visits if I can’t get into Katharine House Hospice. They’ll do massages, reiki, there’s all clinical support with the doctors.
“There’s a lot of other help there.
“And when things get really bad, you can have respite care – you just go in and they can manage the symptoms and help manage your pain.
“They’re always there, like a great big hug.
“They provide support and compassionate care for free.
“And to free up time so you can spend more time with your family and friends, making more of those memories and doing all those things you wanted on your list to do.
“If you’ve been diagnosed with an incurable illness, you’re not alone.
