A group of our staff are challenging themselves to scale the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise money for our charity.
The team
The intrepid team includes workers from the charity’s Palliative Care Nursing Specialist (PCNS) Team, Hospice at Home Team, Family Support Team plus executive and administration staff.
The walkers include: Faye Evans, Administration Assistant; Angela Chalmers, Hospice at Home Coordinator; Hannah Done, Counsellor; Mel Cotterill, Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist; Rachel Agar, Palliative Care Nurse Specialist; Rachael Pyatt, Nursing Associate; Dave Fletcher, Director of Care and Nichola ‘Nikki’ Smith, Senior Care Manager.
The challenge
Together with family and friends on Saturday, 29 June they’ll be covering an impressive 24 miles, three peaks, and 1,585 miles of ascent in 12 hours.
Challenge organiser, Nikki Smith, said: “We all work within different departments and are very passionate about the work we do and the patients we care for.
“Since training started, collectively we’ve walked over 500 miles in the sun, rain, hail and fog. But it’s never put us off.
Thank you
“We can’t thank everyone enough, for sponsoring us and helping us raise nearly half of our target of £5,000 already. Everyone’s generosity has blown us away.”
The 12-strong team has been putting in the hard yards to make sure they’re up to the challenge with demanding training walks in evenings and at weekends. They’ve climbed up the Wrekin, walked over Cannock Chase and completed local walks as well as a gruelling 22.5 miles scaling the peaks of Mam Tor, Losehill, and Win Hill in the Peak District.
Administration Assistant, Faye Evans, told us: “I’m expecting it to be a tough day and I’m sure I’ll feel sore and tired but I know I’ll have support on the day from the people I work with to keep me going.
“The sense of achievement once it’s completed will be great and we’ll have also raised money for the hospice which we see day in and day out providing vital care to local families and their loved ones.”
